Whole Farm Plans
LRI

A farm plan is like a physical farm business plan, it gives a strategic vision of optimising your production whilst farming sustainably. The LUC and Environmental Plan, will provide the information required for NZ Farmsure qualification.

The whole farm plan is broken into several modules and maps:

  • Paddock map and effective areas of all vegetation on the property.
  • Soils map, nutrient management blocks and optimising nutrient use
  • Land Use Capability mapping and addressing production potential of a property
  • Environmental management programme, a tailor made plan to address issues faced on your property. Examples of this could be eroding gullies, forestry production, soil health issues, carbon credit issues, resource consent issue, quality assurance qualification.
  • Production potential linking land use capability, nutrient management and farm management.

SLUI Initiative

Horizons Regional Council , in response to the February 2004 storm event developed a Sustainable Land Use Package that aims to:

  • Protect the community and assets from future storms
  • Protect the soil asset upon which our rural economy depends, and
  • Reduce the Region's reliance on government relief in the future

Whole Farm Plans (WFPs) are being used to deliver these aims to the Region's landowners. The plan's purpose is focused on resource conservation (soil, water, land, vegetation), and also enterprise development and profitability, in recognition that environment and farm business cannot be treated separately.

LandVision provides WFP's for Horizons Regional Council. more info...
